SpoorLife & NAAB Foundation Unite to Empower: “Street Children’s Future, Who Cares?” Project in Wassa East

In a country where the sight of children living and working on the streets is sadly becoming too common, the SpoorLife Foundation, in partnership with the NAAB Foundation, stepped in with purpose and passion to address the root causes of streetism through a bold, week-long empowerment initiative in the Wassa East District.

The program, titled “Street Children’s Future, Who Cares?”, was not just a rhetorical question — it was a call to action, and SpoorLife and NAAB answered with impact.

Restoring Lost Hope Through Education

From August 13th to 20th, 2016, 20 vulnerable children from extremely deprived backgrounds were selected to benefit from this life-transforming project. These children, many of whom had either dropped out of school or never had the chance to begin, were given renewed hope. The project focused on reintegrating them into the formal education system while providing psychosocial support and mentorship to help them thrive in school and life.

Education is the most powerful tool we can use to break the cycle of poverty and prevent children from ending up on the streets. Through this initiative, SpoorLife and NAAB Foundation sent a strong message: every child matters.

Skills Training & Economic Empowerment for the Community

But the initiative went even further. Recognising that the well-being of children is closely tied to the economic stability of their families and communities, the SpoorLife Foundation also rolled out a community skills training and sensitisation program in Ateiku.

Participants, primarily women and youth, were trained in:

  • Liquid soap production
  • Bar soap making
  • Basic entrepreneurship skills
  • Community dialogue sessions on the causes and prevention of streetism

The goal was to empower locals with income-generating skills, thereby lifting families out of poverty and reducing the pressure that often drives children to the streets in search of survival.

Why This Matters

The increasing rate of streetism in Ghana is a social emergency. It stems from a combination of poverty, broken homes, lack of access to education, and societal neglect. Children who live on the streets are exposed to abuse, hunger, exploitation, and hopelessness.

SpoorLife & NAAB Foundation believe that real change happens when communities are empowered, and when every child is seen, heard, and supported. Their efforts in Ateiku are proof that with the proper support, we can rewrite the stories of countless children who are often ignored.

Join the Movement

We invite individuals, organisations, and stakeholders to join us in expanding this mission. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, you can be the reason a child leaves the streets and finds purpose again.

Together, we can end streetism — one child, one family, one community at a time.
